Neighborhood Spruce—Up !

At the June MVNA board meeting President Jannasch suggested that board members and volunteers spend a half day sprucing up areas in the neighborhood. The board decided to begin with Anthony’s Gate on Colton and the two Peters Gate locations on Munras and Alameda. July 3 at 9 a.m. was scheduled as the first date. Work would be followed by lunch at the Jannasch residence.

The event was a success: 5 participants, and 5 bags of trash, leaves and trimmings. Volunteers painted, scrubbed, raked, and weeded. . . . We’ll do it again ! Send in your suggestions for sites in our neighborhood that need us !

MHS NEW TRACK & FIELD IS ONE YEAR OLD!

Monterey High School has their BRAND new field and track. The old field was 100 years old with a hard bumpy surface and very troubling drainage problems (At times, the track team had to squeegee the field to practice.!) The June 2008 Graduating Class was the first to use the completed field for the ceremony.

This fundraising and construction project has been ongoing for five years. The high school PTSA led the undertaking and created a special committee to oversee the fundraising, planning, supervising and construction. Construction included extensive drainage correction, grading and soil removal on field and track, installation of artificial turf and striping, and creation of a new track surface. The committee reports that the construction is complete with $50,000 needed for the remaining payments due For further information contact PTSA president Lynn Marcus at LynnMarcus@gmail.com. Or mail your contribution to the high school at 101 Herrmann Drive, Monterey 93940.
